Muhammad Waseem

Muhammad Waseem is a Research Assistant Professor with the University of Tennessee–Oak Ridge Innovation Institute’s Advanced Manufacturing for Affordable Building Construction Convergent Research Initiative.

Waseem’s research focuses on the intersection of automation, control, and optimization within complex industrial environments. His work leverages cutting-edge methodologies, including Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL), Game Theory, and Generative AI/Large Language Models (LLMs), to enhance production planning and system efficiency.

Prior to joining UT-ORII, Waseem conducted significant research on energy-efficient control strategies for industrial processes and integrated microgrid-manufacturing systems. He also served as a Research Intern at General Motors, where he developed digital twin surrogates and machine learning models to optimize automotive assembly lines. His research excellence has been recognized with the MAE Outstanding Graduate Research Award and the Link Lab Distinguished Research Award from UVA.
