Célestin Bourgery is a Research Assistant Professor with the University of Tennessee-Oak Ridge Innovation Institute’s Circular Bioeconomy Systems Convergent Research Initiative.

He specializes in biocatalysis at the interface between chemistry and biology, with a focus on the development, synthesis, and remanufacturing of novel (bio)materials. His research combines enzyme engineering, green chemistry, and chemical engineering to develop sustainable approaches for materials design, recycling, and circularity.

His multidisciplinary research profile has been shaped through research experiences in France, Australia, and the United States, including research at the Bioresource Processing Research Institute of Australia (BioPRA) at Monash University and the Center for Plastics Innovation (CPI) at the University of Delaware.

He received his Ph.D. in Biotechnology from AgroParisTech – URD ABI, France, in 2023, before joining Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) as a Postdoctoral Research Associate.
