key leader in UT-ORII’s Radiopharmaceutical Therapies CRI Gabor Tigyi receives János Arany Lifetime Achievement Award

Congratulations Dr. Gabor T

Congratulations to Dr. Gabor Tigyi on receiving the prestigious János Arany Lifetime Achievement Award — the highest international honor from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (HAS).

This award recognizes scientists of Hungarian descent whose groundbreaking work has made an extraordinary impact on global science and elevated the international reputation of HAS.

Dr. Tigyi is being honored for his pioneering contributions to lysophospholipid research, a field he helped establish. His work has advanced our understanding of tissue regeneration and cancer progression, particularly through the regulation of stem cells.

Originally from Hungary, Dr. Tigyi now serves as the Harriett Van Vleet Professor of Basic Oncology Research at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center and is a key leader in the UT-Oak Ridge Innovation Institute’s Radiopharmaceutical Therapies Convergent Research Initiative.

He will be formally honored this May in Budapest during the 200th Anniversary celebration of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
